Super Duplex

Oil & Gas

The materials selected for oil & gas industries are stainless steel & nickel alloys. Grades such as 304, 316, 321 & 347 are used. These are selected due to their high strength, corrosion resistance, high tensile, high strength and cost effective. These qualities are important as this suggests they’re reliable. Due to the 10.5% chromium that stainless steel possesses, this gives it great corrosion resistance. Corrosion resistance is needed in marine environments.

Pipelines

Stainless steel is used for pipelines. Pipelines transport gas, liquified natural gas products, petroleum products. Underground & transport fluids. Stainless steel is selected for this as it has excellent corrosion resistance, with the pipelines being underground this is a reliable material to use.

Heat exchanger

Heat exchangers transfer heat between fluids. This provides air conditioning to a building a heat exchanger will be used. Ferratic steels & nickel alloys are the most frequently used for heat exchangers as the nickel alloy has resistance to high temperatures which creates a longer life span for the product. The high strength and non magnetic qualities are very reliable within the heat exchanger.

Flowlines

Flowlines are special pipelines that have limited lengths to the oil field area. The difference between flowlines & pipelines is that the flow pipes carry unprocessed oil & the pipelines carry processed oil. Stainless steel is also applied to flowlines as its corrosion resistant & durable.

Marine

Stainless steel is the most frequently used material in marine, 304 and 316 are the selected grade. 304 is is less used as it has less molybdenum, suggesting it doesn’t respond as well in high chloride environments, 316 has more molybdenum and resists pitting corrosion. 304 reacts well with scorching temperatures.

Propellers

Propellers are mechanical devices for propelling a boat or aircraft, consisting of a revolving shafts with angled blades attached to it. The selected material is often F61 because of the toughness, corrosion resistance, mechanical strength & reliability.

Submarine

F61 was selected for submarines as it demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance and is cost effective. The yield strength is over 60 ksi at room temperature, the ksi temperature that is needed is at least 60, so this quality is a reliable consideration for the submarine

Marine fittings

316 is best suited for marine fittings as it contains more molybdenum than 304, meaning it is better suited in high chloride environments. They both have a great corrosion resistance and 316 resists pitting corrosion. 304 is an option in marine fittings but is less desirable due to the less molybdenum.

Automotive

The materials used for automotive industry 304, 316, 400 series because of their corrosive resistance. Cars and their parts need to be corrosive resistant as they will be in environments that are wet, such as when it rains.

Gas turbines

Gas turbines are continuous combustion air is compressed and fed into a combustion chamber resulting in fuel then sprayed.  Titanium alloys are a selected material for gas turbines as they demonstrate high strength, extraordinary corrosion resistance and reacts well in high temperatures. Ti 5, for example, is one of the alloys that are used. The preferred temperature for aircraft engines is 600, Ti 5 meets that expectation

Compressor blading materials

The materials used for compressor blading materials are 403 and titanium alloys. 403 has 12% chromium. 403 is corrosion resistant due to how much chromium it holds. Corrosion occurs on compressor blades because of moisture collecting on the blading

Motor shafts

The metals used for motor shafts is 17-4PH and 4140. 17-4 displays density, hardness, tensile strength, excellent wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. 4140 is selected because of its qualities that includes great strength, impact resistance, abrasion, ductility & toughness. Motor shafts are used to rotate instruments, transfers electrically produced torque via a corresponding positive configuration in the transmission.

Chemical process plants

17-4PH is the selected material for industrial process plants. The goal of these plants is to create new material wealth. 17-4 demonstrates hardness, corrosion resistant & excellent strength.

Aviation Landing gear

718 is the selected material for landing gear, due to the materials high strength, impact strength, excellent tensile, corrosion resistance & high temperature conditions. This material is a reliable and suitable.

Hydraulic systems are critical for a smooth & steady flight. Using fluid under pressure. Hydraulic systems actuate landing gears, brakes & flaps. Delivers torque no matter the speed.

Valve stem

718 is the use of material for valve stems. A valve stem is a self contained valve which opens to admit gas chamber and then automatically closes & keeps sealed by the pressure in the chamber or a spring, to keep the gas from escaping. This is usually the parts of a tire. 718 is used because of the corrosion resistance, which is needed in these conditions

Fasteners

Stainless steel is used for the application of fasteners as the environment of a swimming pool is aggressive for some metals. Due to high temperature, chloride vapours & high humidity stainless steel is the best selected material for fasteners. Fasteners are device that close or secure things.

Turbines

Turbines are a turbomachine with at least one moving part called a rotor assembly which is a shaft or drum with blades attached. Moving fluid acts on the blades so that they move and impart rotational energy to the rotor. F55 is selected because of its imperior strength & reliability.

Propeller shafts

Propeller shafts are shafts that transmitting power from engine to a propeller or to the wheels of a motor vehicle. 316 is used because of corrosion resistance and heat resistance.

Flange pipe connections

Lf2 is used because of its good impact resistance. Flange pipe connections are two pieces of pipe, equipment, fittings or valves are connected together to form a piping system. Flanges provide access for when equipment needs to be cleaned, inspected or reconfigured

Super Duplex

We had a customer wanting 1pce of Super Duplex 25mm x 25mm x 200mm long as a block

To produce as flat bar the lead time was several months and the cost was substantial

In order to help the customer and deliver with a few days we took a 300mm diameter piece of the material and blocked it on the saw. It took 5 cuts and was ready within a few days instead of a few months allowing the customer to complete their project quickly and cheaper

To keep within specification, to make sure the material was representative of the mill certificate and to give the customer 100% security on the quality of the material we also sent a sample to the test lab for a same day testing.
